Mauro Giuliani (1781-1829)
THE GUITAR DUETS
Giuliani composed duets for two guitars throughout his life, all of which are presented by Tecla Editions complete in Volumes 19 to 24 of his Complete Works, in reprints of the first editions. Perhaps the most celebrated of the duets today are the splendid arrangements of operatic overtures by Rossini and others, which are published here complete in Volumes 23 and 24
But also the other duets have marvellous music as has been demonstrated recently by Claudio Maccari and Paolo Pugliese in their CDs of Giuliani's complete duets for two guitars, which we can supply.
In particular on those CDs, the Gran Variazioni Concertanti op. 35 take one's breath away.
Most of the duets are for two normal guitars, but some of the early ones are for one terz guitar (Guitar 1) and one normal guitar (Guitar 2).
The complete guitar duets of Giuliani are in Volumes 19 to 24 of his Complete Works, as follows. They are all facsimiles of the first editions, and they all all have a Guitar 1 part and a Guitar 2 part, no score.
