Three Simfonias by "Sort", in an edition from Spain
We have some copies for sale of three modern editions of three separate "Simfonias" for orchestra from the early 19th century which are attributed to "Sort" in the original mss in Spain in which they are found. Are they by Fernando Sor? Possibly; but also they might be by some other composer with the name of Sors or Sort known to have been active in Spain at that time, for example Narciso Sors or Sort. The editor, Josep Dolcet, puts the name of "Ferran Sors" on the covers, but is clear about this in his introduction. My own personal opinion, after looking at them, is that on the whole, they do not seem to be in the style of Fernando Sor. However, we have copies and for those who are interested, we can supply. There are three publications. All are published by Tritó in Barcelona and all have prefaces in Catalan, Spanish, and English. The numbering Simfonia I, II, III is modern and does not come from the original mss. (1) Simfonia I en do major. From a ms in the Biblioteca Histórica Municipal in Madrid. 51 pages, score only. WP0251: €30.00 or 20.00 UK pounds or 37.00 US dollars. (2) Simfonia II en mi bemoll major. From a ms in the archive of Toledo Cathedral. 48 pages, score only. WP0252: €30.00 or 20.00 UK pounds or 37.00 US dollars. (2) Simfonia III en fa major. From a ms in the archive of Toledo Cathedral. 44 pages, score only. WP0253: €30.00 or 20.00 UK pounds or 37.00 US dollars. To order, please send us an email first to make sure that we have copies in stock.
