CD: La Seguidilla Galante

After some time trying, I have managed (June 2008) to get a small supply of this CD. It is the only CD that I know of with seguidillas from the first years of the 19th century in Spain which takes account of Sor's two metronome indications for this music, which are 130, that is to say: quite fast, and 162-164, that is to say: very fast. (You can see those metronome indications of his in my edition of Sor's Seguidillas, in the facsimile of "Le Bolero" at the back ).

This CD has a lot of life. Mind you, there are some things that I don't much like in it, such as that they perform too many repeats for my liking, that they deliberately mix up various texts in a single song, and I am not convinced by their instrumentation (they use a group of instruments not just guitar). But the fact remains that this CD is lively, it often makes your feet tap, which is what travellers in Sor's time said about the bolero. And there is a wonderful song by Moretti. Anyone who wants to perform seguidillas from this period should at least hear this CD before working on this music.
