Henrik Rung (1807-1871)
Voice
Canzonette Italiane Populari
(Canzonette Lombarde)
for two voices and guitar or piano
edited by Jens Bang-Rasmussen
Henrik Rung composed this collection of
eight Italian duets in Italy, probably during his visit in 1838-40. The
songs were published in 1844 (Copenhagen, C. A. Reitzel).
He dedicated the songs to the composer
Giacomo Meyerbeer (1791-1864), whom he met in about 1840. Rung asked for
his opinion of his songs, and Meyerbeer's answer showed a very positive
view of them. This must be the reason for his dedication to Meyerbeer.
These songs can also be performed for just
a solo voice and guitar.
Thanks to the Royal Library, Copenhagen for
providing the original score.
